BEAT.IT is a project focussing on an exciting musical movement.
The compilation we put together features tracks from a number of Italian underground producers, with musical genres ranging from funk to abstract, and including some of our most interesting and contemporary experimental sounds.
The project is a collaboration of Error Broadcast, Made In Glitch and ReddArmy, with the support of Get Beat, Homework Records, Il Vinilificio, Laid Back, Overknights, PTW School, Sentire Ascoltare, Snob Production and Snowy Peach.

  • Ad Bourke Vs. Costa

    01 / Ominide

    “Ominide” is the result of a collaboration of two minds from Rome. Ad Bourke is considered one of the most important Italian electronic producers. He was an alumni at the Red Bull Music Academy and has released his Mirage EP for Citinite. Raffaele Costantino has been one of the pioneers of the "abstract beat" in Italy, first with his Xcoast project and more recently with his pseudonym Costa. (Costa) is also the founder of Snob Production, the art director of Meet in Town Festival, and hosts Musical Box, a radio 2 show dedicated to the sounds evolution.

  • A N.I.Q. JOINT

    02 / Campioni Gorilla

    A N.I.Q. JOINT is the moniker of Nicola Semprini from Rome. He takes us on a musical journey through his interpretation of modern; funk, reggae, electro and soul.
    His music has been played all around the world and as he likes to remind people: “It’s just about the BEAT!”

  • Morpheground

    03 / Where Am I ?¿?

    After being exposed to a variety of music early on, Morpheground started his musical career in 2003. His music is inspired by: food, languages, genres and cultures.

    Most recently he released two volumes of selected beats called Off D’Wrekkid. He is currently working on future projects.

  • Digi G'Alessio

    04 / Oh Yes I'm A Lonely Man

    He’s one of the most active and prolific experimental producers in Italy. Digi G’Alessio started his career in Jazz and Punk music moving on to samplers and machines.
    He has collaborated with numerous labels, whilst working predominantly with the OverKnights collective.


  • Hellomynameisra

    05 / I Ree

    Sicilian producer based in London, passionate about fat beats, funk and soul, Hellomynameisra released his first track in 2001.
    His music is an eclectic mix of influences with a predominant flavor of funk in the background. He's currently involved in many projects like: Chain Beat Dropper, Hypatia and BioMassacre.

  • Manuele Atzeni

    06 / Bum! Clack!

    Manuele Atzeni is a dj/producer from Florence.
    He is a proud co-founder of the Overknights collective.
    His work is heavily hip-hop influenced with an electro/dub twist.


  • Colossius

    07 / Kentacky

    Lives and works in Florence. He’s half of the duo Ether, under which he has produced music for various labels and also released three EPs.
    Under the name Colossius he has produced tracks for the Japanese Label Lo-Vibes and for the Label Fresh-Yo with Digi G'Alessio. He also runs a radio show called Ragnampiza.


  • Bainmass

    08 / Old Stuff

    In 2003 Bainmass started playing with DJ Monsa and T-Robb as part of Fetish Funk Crew and 20dita.
    He has since collaborated with Il Vinilifico and Passion Junkies.
    His track “Old Stuff” directly hits the listener with a fast rhythm and simple yet carefully laid down samples, producing the classic feel of the "boom bap" style.

  • Dj 2Phast

    09 / Cluedo

    Dj 2Phast has worked as a DJ for groups such as Sangue Mostro, Domasan, The Stones and 13 Bastardi. He won the “Beat the Beat” category at the IDA Champion of 2009.

    His sound is a fusion between dub, ambient and big drums. 2Phast has recently moved from Italy to Berlin.

  • Master Of Ribongia

    10 / Sunny Good Times

    Born in Florence and currently living in Sydney, Master Of Ribongia’s profile has grown internationally. He has shared stages with djs like; Flying Lotus and Gaslamp Killer and has become a regular fixture on the Australian music festival scene.
    His sound can be described as a positive soul-funk mix interpreted in a futuristic way.

  • Grillo

    11 / Tasty Satellites

    Currently living in Milan, Grillo describes his sound as a kind of “slow rave music for lazy people”.
    He is currently working on leftfield electronica projects with rogue indie movie crews, as he crafts his own blend of music consisting of: crusty beats, vintage samples, 8-bit bleeps and field recordings.
    Grillo hosts a weekly radio show called Bubblegum Beats.

  • Kappah

    Born in Udine, Christian Kappah Pevere has been passionate about producing music since childhood. In 2005 he joined Madrac and the ReddArmy and collaborated as a beatmaker on various albums.
    He has released Ballets and Welcome Superstereo Stars for ReddArmy as well as producing remixes for a number of artists. There are surprises to come: Stay tuned.


  • Railster

    13 / Andromeda

    Railster has been making music since 2000. After experimenting with local hip hop groups, he released his first album: Patchwork Anthems in 2009 for ReddArmy.
    He has produced remixes and podcasts for numerous artists and crews around the world, including Tokyo Dawn Records and Error Broadcast, and is the coordinator of this project.

  • Bass Science

    14 / Wax Slash

    A fusion of dubstep, glitch hop, IDM and dub, make a fresh sound that is simultaneously filthy and clean.
    Bass Science have dazzled crowds at festivals and clubs from the UK's Glade to LA's Low End Theory and have received enthusiastic support from influential DJs like the BBC's Mary Anne Hobbs.
    Bass Science is blowing up, and not just speakers.

  • Fitness Bitch

    15 / Sinergy

    Fitness Bitch is the culmination of a decade of experimenting by Michele Lafiandra. His samples are the result of random and frantic crate digging.
    “Sinergy” represents a fusion of funk and ambient drones with deep inspirational rhythms.

  • ContaineR

    16 / Quack Methods

    Alessio Magenta and Luca Sammartin are the beatmaking team behind ContaineR.
    They’ve been producing music separately since 2000, whilst consistently exchanging ideas in the form of CD’s as birthday presents.
    “This is the dance of 2072” is the phrase they use to describe their music.

Beat'em, if you can

Le leggi del tempo? No, grazie. In anni in cui molti (troppi?) si innamorano di revivalismi e retro-manie o, al contrario, sono troppo ossessionati dal dover ricadere nel suono del momento, qua funziona in altro modo: funziona con l'approccio dell'hip hop originario, fare musica dell'ultra-presente combinando gli elementi più diversi (tipo: il funk anni '70 in collisione coll'anno 3000). Le leggi della gravità? Neanche, grazie. Perché questa è musica che riesce al tempo stesso a volare aerea e a colpire dritto nella pancia, alla ricerca di una vertigine avvolgente, alla ricerca del colpo a sorpresa, spostando bassi, vibrazioni ed equilibri in un modo che pop rock techno house jazz quello-che-volete-voi non hanno mai praticato prima.

Le leggi dello spazio? Nemmeno quelle, grazie di nuovo. Gente italiana, qua: gente che dovrebbe avere a che fare con l'opprimente tradizione di Laura Pausini ed Eros Ramazzotti, di una scena musicale che raramente si mette sulla mappa internazionale quando si tratta di beats.
Nessuno sente il peso di questa situazione, nessuno la accusa – basta lamentarsi, non serve lamentarsi. Serve mettersi all'opera. Serve il talento. Serve la felicità creativa. Sconfiggili, se ci riesci.
